Goals

Education - `imi na' auao - seeking knowledge and continuing to learn.

  • Scholarship Program - Education is the key to help our people improve their lives by enhancing our ability to successfully compete in today's world. We have a scholarship grant program to benefit Pacific American college students from Washington and Alaska who are attending in state and out-of-state institutions of higher learning.  We award several $1,000 scholarships annually.
  • Fund Raising Events - KSAA-NW has several fund raising events each year to support the scholarship fund. Using the powers of laulima and lokahi - working together in unison and accord, we host events in the Puget Sound area. We also take advantage of opportunities to participate in other community and/or business events to raise revenue for KSAA-NWR.  [ View Events page...]

Community Outreach

  • Student Connections - KSAA-NWR sponsors a program to help mentor and guide our island students who have come to the Northwest to attend college. The event brings together KSAA members in Washington with college students from Hawaii. Our outreach is not just for Kamehameha graduates, but also for any Hawaiian student attending college in the area.
  • NW Explorations Program - We have a common goal of perpetuating our Hawaiian culture and sponsor the annual KSAA-NW Explorations Program. Held in conjunction with Hui Lokahi Ho`olaule`a in October, the program invites anyone interested in hands-on education of some aspects of Hawaiian culture. In past years, there have been Hawaiian storytellers, an expert in Hawaiian medicinal plants and demonstrations/participation in making haku leis, fish hook necklaces and playing the board game, Kōnane. It is through these programs that our people can learn of the highly successful skills and expertise of our ancestors and be proud of our heritage.
  • Pacific American Executive Council - KSAA-NWR is a founding member of the Pacific American Executive Council which brings together the leaders of other Pacific American organizations in the Northwest to work together to help improve the lives of all Pacific Americans. These partnerships are in keeping with our value of kahiau by helping fellow Pacific Americans and providing us an opportunity to participate in resolving issues affecting Pacific Americans in our local communities.
